Why Buy Local Meat?
When you buy meat from a local farm, you’re doing more than checking an item off your grocery list—you’re making a conscious choice about where your food comes from and how it was raised.
At Northern Farm & Flowers, we’re proud to practice regenerative farming—an approach that focuses on improving the health of our land while raising healthy animals. Our pasture-raised poultry is moved to fresh pasture, where it has access to sunshine, fresh air, grasses, and insects. Our pigs are forest-raised, allowing them to root, forage, and express their natural behaviors in a wooded environment. We also partner with trusted local farms that share our commitment to responsible animal care and land stewardship, allowing us to offer locally raised grass-fed beef alongside our own pork and poultry.
What Is Regenerative Farming?
Regenerative farming is about leaving the land better than we found it. By thoughtfully managing our animals and allowing them to graze and forage in ways that mimic nature, we work to build healthier soils, encourage biodiversity, and create a more resilient farm for future generations. It’s a long-term commitment to caring for both our animals and the environment they depend on.
Know Your Farmer
One of the greatest benefits of buying local is knowing the people behind your food. Instead of wondering where your meat was raised or how it was produced, you can visit our farm, ask questions, and shop with confidence. We believe transparency matters, and we’re proud to share our farming practices with our customers.
Better Animal Care
Healthy animals thrive when they’re given room to move, fresh air, sunshine, and the opportunity to express their natural behaviors. We raise our own livestock in environments that prioritize their well-being because we believe good farming starts with good animal care.
Exceptional Flavor & Quality
Many customers tell us they notice the difference immediately. Meat from thoughtfully raised animals often has richer flavor, better texture, and a quality that’s hard to find in a typical grocery store. Whether you’re grilling a steak, roasting a chicken, or slow-cooking a pork shoulder, starting with exceptional ingredients makes every meal better.
Supporting Local Farms & Families
Every purchase helps sustain family farms and strengthens our local food system. Instead of your dollars leaving the community, they help support local farmers, neighboring businesses, and the rural landscapes that make northwest Connecticut such a special place to live and visit.
A More Thoughtful Way to Shop
Shopping at a local farm is about building a connection to your food. You know where it came from, who raised it, and the care that went into every step of the process. It’s a slower, more intentional way of buying food—one that values quality, stewardship, and community over convenience.
Whether you’re looking for pasture-raised poultry, forest-raised pork, locally raised grass-fed beef, or farm-fresh eggs, we’re honored to be part of your family’s table and grateful for every customer who chooses to support local agriculture.
What You’ll Find at Northern Farm & Flowers
Forest-Raised Pork
Raised by us on our farm in nearby West Cornwall, our pigs spend their lives outdoors in wooded areas where they can root, explore, and behave naturally. We offer individual cuts as well as whole and half pork shares throughout the year.
Pasture-Raised Poultry
Our chickens, ducks, and turkeys are moved regularly onto fresh pasture, giving them continual access to grass, insects, and sunshine. This rotational system promotes healthy birds while helping improve the land they graze.
Grass-Fed Beef
While we don’t raise a large amount of our own cattle, we proudly offer locally raised grass-fed beef from trusted area farms that share our commitment to quality and responsible farming.
